Patients who have had a myocardial infarction should not fly for at least 3 weeks afterwards, and use of supplemental oxygen on a flight should be considered for up to 4 months. A general rule is that patients with cardiac problems should be able to walk 100 yd and climb 12 steps before attempting a long flight.
