Currently, about a billion people travel by air every year for business and pleasure, and within 20 years, the number is expected to double. Although air travel to developing countries was once impossible, many tourists now enter remote areas where the sights are breathtaking and unforgettable but the risk of disease is high. In addition, travelers to any large foreign city come in contact with thousands of new people each day and are at increased risk for infectious disease.
